Lundy Island Details

Lundy Island lies on the Bristol Channel, about 11 miles off the coast of North Devon. 3 miles long and half a mile wide, this granite outcrop rises 400 feet above sea level and is a place of outstanding natural beauty, with tremendous views of England, Wales and the Atlantic. Lundy's Flora and Fauna is so rich and diverse that most of the island is a sight of special interest and the seas surrounding it are England's only statutory nature reserve, so whether your looking for birds or basking sharks; Soay sheep or seals; or even Lundy cabbages or corals then Lundy is the place to come.

Lundy offers a very rare experience. It is large enough to have a genuine life of its own, which visitors can share and enjoy, but small and far enough away to be a world apart and unspoilt. After your day's diving in the marine nature reserve, why not opt for a more gentle pursuit, such as bird watching, walking, socialising at the Marisco Tavern or simply relaxing in this remote and tranquil place.

Lundy is also a popular diving destination for those able to reach the island from the mainland at weekends and for those who stay on the island. Divers are expected to act responsibily within the reserve and to adhere to the sign-posted bye-laws and code of conduct. A leaflet detailing them is freely available. For those wishing to find out more about what they encounter underwater, a number of displays, photographic identification guides and leaflets are available.
