SPECIALTY FEES - COURSE CALENDAR
All the speciality courses we offer are non-stressful, performance-related and good fun!! If you don’t see a convenient date for the Speciality you are interested in, please let us know. We are very flexible and will try and arrange schedules around you. Please also refer to our special 2007 midweek schedules, where you will also find some specialities.
AWARE
– CORAL REEF CONSERVATION
(non-diving, no minimum age)
This course encompasses the function and importance of coral reefs. It
also reviews why so many reefs are in serious trouble and what we can
do to prevent further decline. This
course is ideal combined with either Peak Performance Buoyancy or Underwater
Naturalist. And for the juniors, we offer it combined with either PADI
Skin Diver or the PADI Seal Team programme (Inner
Space Aquamission).
BOAT
DIVER
(2 dives, Min age 10 years. Open Water or Junior OW Diver)
For those divers who would like to gain experience in boat diving
techniques, we offer the standard PADI speciality in this area.
We offer this speciality on any of our UK trips to the Farne
Islands and Portland. We recommend
that you book this up as soon as possible, as spaces are limited
on the boats.
2008 Dates: Feb 17th
DEEP
DIVER
(4 dives. Min. age 15yrs. Min. qual. Adventure Diver or equivalent of Advanced Open Water Diver)
With the advancement of technology and improvements in equipment, deeper dives and longer bottom times at depth are now within all divers’ scope. Deeper dives, however, require special knowledge and techniques that are best acquired and practised under the expert guidance and tuition of an experienced instructor. If you are interested in deep diving, please discuss your aims and objectives carefully with our instructional team, so that a course suitable to your requirements can be arranged. Please remember that the PADI Deep speciality is an introductory level course, and if you are seeking more adventurous and challenging options, you should consider some of the technical diving courses that are described in separate literature
DPV
– DIVER PROPULSION VEHICLE
(2 dives Min. age 12yrs. Min. qual Open
Water or JOW Diver). On some dives it can be advantageous to be able to cover a large distance in the minimum amount of time, for example, in the initial survey of a wreck. DPVs can be very useful also for mobility-impaired divers. And – they’re just very good fun to drive! But as always, special training is recommended.
2008 Dates: 19th January, March 15th
DRIFT
DIVER
(2 dives. Min age 12 yrs. Min qual. Open Water)
Drift diving is a marvellous experience, but for those of you
who have been trained in fresh water or in controlled sea conditions,
it can be quite daunting, as you are carried along at the mercy
of the ocean current. Your Speciality Instructor will coach
you in the required techniques to make these dives unforgettably
and safely enjoyable. For 2008, we offer this speciality on
any of our UK trips to the Farne Islands and Portland.
We recommend that you book this up as soon as possible, as spaces
are limited on the boats.
DRYSUIT
DIVER
(2 dives. Min. age 10yrs. Min. qual Open
Water or Junior OW Diver)
Did you qualify in the summer? Are you apprehensive of the colder
water and the unfamiliarity of the drysuit? Or have you heard
a bewildering range of comments from dry suit divers in praise
or condemnation of either the neoprene or membrane suit? Perhaps
you're considering buying a drysuit, but would like professional
instruction, advice and the chance to try different types before
you do. In all these cases, the 2- day Drysuit Specialist Course
fits the bill.
2008 Dates: 4+5th, 11+12th January , 8+9th February, 14+15th March
ENRICHED
AIR DIVER
(Number of Dives Optional. Min age 15 yrs. Or 12 yrs for an
ANDI course) Min qual Open Water Diver)
As most divers are aware that enriching the oxygen content of the breathing
mixture dramatically increases bottom time, but did you know that it can
also reduce nitrogen narcosis and post-dive fatigue, as well as offering
protection against the risk of decompression sickness.
This can be combined with almost any other diving speciality, but we find
that the most popular options are with the Drysuit, Night and Navigation
Specialities.
2008 Dates: 13th January, March 1st
EQUIPMENT
SPECIALIST
("dry" course. Min. age 10yrs.. Min. qual Open
Water Diver)
This is a course you can take immediately after qualifying as an Open
Water Diver. Did you feel a little bewildered by the amount of information
you had to take in on regulators, gauges, cylinders, BCD's etc.? The Equipment
Specialist Course is designed to give you a more detailed insight into
diving equipment, how it operates, how you can carry out routine and preventive
maintenance and running repairs and when you should leave it to the experts.
During the course, your instructor and specialist staff will demonstrate
cylinder testing, regulator servicing and drysuit repairs. Equipment Specialist
is a worthwhile course for anyone who is interested in knowing how things
work and how to maintain them.
2008 Dates: 26th January, 29th March
FULL FACE MASK
(1 pool session & 2 dives. Min age 15 yrs. Min qual Open Water with 20 logged dives)
Whether it is for added diving comfort, a warmer face while winter diving or just plain curiosity, the Full Face Mask Diver course offers an exciting experience for all levels of diver. After a pool orientation you will have the chance to complete 2 dives wearing the highly rated Neptune 2 Full Face Diving Mask. The course teaches you how to use the mask comfortably and safely and is a pre-curser to the hotly anticipated Underwater Radio Communications speciality where you will actually be able to talk to other divers underwater!
ICE DIVER
(2 Dives. Min age 18 yrs. Min Qual Advanced Open
Water Diver)
For many, the ultimate adventure would be diving under ice. And, provided
we have the right conditions, we have the specialist staff to teach this
course. No dates can be set, but please register your interest with us,
and we’ll give you a call when we have ice – you’ll
need to be prepared to drop everything and come diving!
MULTI-LEVEL
DIVER
(2 dives. Min. age 12yrs. Min. qual Advanced
Open Water)
Learn how the Wheel and diving computers can assist you in dive planning.
Your instructor will show you how to use these tools and get the most
out of your diving. You will find them invaluable on diving holidays where
there are ample opportunities for repetitive dives. You will get a chance
to use the school computers on this course.
2008 Dates: Feb 17th
NIGHT
DIVER
(3 dives. Min. age 12yrs. Min. qual Open Water or Junior OW Diver)
Dedicated night divers will never refuse a night dive even if they've
already had a couple of dives that day. Night diving is a whole new experience;
dive sites that are well known by day, change into a different world at
night as nocturnal creatures become active and otherwise elusive fish
can be approached in the beam of a torch. New techniques are required
for night diving. Your instructor will develop these for you and give
you plenty of tips on this enjoyable course.
2008 Dates: 25+26th January, 21+22 March
PEAK
PERFORMANCE BUOYANCY
(2 dives Min age 10 yrs. Min qual Open
Water or Junior OW Diver).
Buoyancy skills are extremely important, and particularly so
for newly qualified divers. This 1-day course will be an invaluable
tool to polish your skills beyond Open Water level.

SEARCH
AND RECOVERY
(4 dives. Min. age 12yrs. Min. qual Advanced
Open Water Diver, Junior OW Diver or Open Water or Junior OW with
Underwater Navigation Speciality)
One of the most satisfying courses you can do. Search techniques will
be studied in depth and put to the test in recovery operations. Lifting
the object recovered becomes easy once you've mastered the relevant calculations

minded diver or keen "treasure hunter".

both inexpensive and top-of-the range underwater photographic equipment.

WRECK
DIVER
(4 dives. Min age 15 yrs. Min qual Adventure Diver or qualifying
rating).
If you ask divers why they first became interested in diving,
most will respond “to see and dive on wrecks”. Tales
of mysteries beneath the sea inevitably arouse curiosity and
interest. Wreck diving, or any overhead environment, requires
special knowledge and techniques that are best acquired and
practised under the expert guidance and tuition of an experienced
instructor. As with deep diving, it is best to discuss your
aims and objectives carefully with our instructional team, so
that a course suitable to your requirements can be arranged.
Please remember that the PADI Wreck speciality is an introductory
level course, and if you are seeking more adventurous and challenging
options, you should consider some of the ANDI
courses.
