So you want to do a Professional Diving Instructor Course?
Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) -
(PART 2 OF THE IDC)
PADI dive centres worldwide depend on PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors. As a PADI OWSI you will be starting on a career that is both rewarding and satisfying. You can conduct all the main PADI recreational programmes as well as experience programmes.
How do I get started?
As an Assistant Instructor you are already in the PADI Instructor Development process and you have all the materials needed to complete the OWSI programme. You will need to complete the remaining self-study sections from the IDC Workbook. A comprehensive list of all the equipment and training materials needed for an OWSI programme is available from us on request.
Once you have enrolled on our OWSI programme you have full use of the facilities available at Dive In to prepare yourself for this course.
Course Overview
As the second part of the PADI IDC, the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) programme is the final development step in becoming a PADI Instructor. You learn to manage and adapt the PADI System to individual student needs. The OWSI programme has more than twenty presentations delivered by our Course Directors and Staff Instructors. In these academic development sessions you learn to conduct all the core PADI programmes as well as learn about diving as a business and develop marketing techniques. You will present a minimum number of confined water, academic and open water sessions during the OWSI programme. All of this training is developmental and once you have reached the required standards you will receive your IDC Certificate of Completion and will be able to attend a PADI Instructor Examination.
Course Duration
The Open Water Scuba Instructor Programme takes a minimum of four days.
The Instructor Examination is normally held over two days. Our OWSI programmes normally coincide with Whittlesey IE date so you do not need to have a gap between the end of your programme and the start of the IE.

To start your OWSI programme you need to be a PADI Assistant Instructor or have an equivalent certification. Divers certified through other agencies should contact the centre as there may be additional requirements to your certification.
